Futurama, an adult sci-fi series created by David X. Cohen and Matt Groening, originally aired on Fox and Comedy Central. After being off the air for over a decade, Hulu rebooted the fan-favorite show in 2023, reuniting the original creators and voice cast, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman.
In Season 12, Philip, Leela, Bender, and the rest of the Planet Express shipping company crew venture on more “outlandish and unpredictable escapades,” according to Hulu. These include “deadly birthday party games and uncovering the ancient origins of a mind-altering substance known as coffee.”
Executive producer David X. Cohen spoke at an SDCC press roundtable and admitted how the show’s writers managed to keep track of the more than two-decade-old Futurama lore.
“The embarrassing admission that I’m about to make is that in the writers room, we are frequently consulting these fan sites to see what happened in the old episodes,” Cohen said, according to Gizmodo. “Even those of us who wrote the episodes. I’ve been to, like, fan Futurama trivia night, for example, and came in second. It’s hard to compete with fans for the repository of knowledge.”
