Adult Protection Services

Adult Protection services provide for the safety and protection of vulnerable adults aged 18 and over who are, or are suspected to be, victims of abuse, neglect, self-neglect or exploitation.

The Adult Protection program:

Vulnerable Adult: a person 18 years old or older who is unable to protect himself from abuse, neglect or exploitation due to physical or mental impairment which affects judgement or behavior to the extent that sufficient understand or capacity is lacking in regard to making, communicating or implementing decisions.

Abuse: the intentional or negligent infliction of physical pain, injury or mental harm.

Neglect: failure of a caretaker to provide food, clothing, shelter or medical care reasonably necessary to sustain the life and health of a vulnerable adult or failure of a vulnerable adult to provide those things for herself.

Exploitation: the unjust or improper use of a vulnerable adult’s funds, property, resources or financial power of attorney for profit or advantage.

Reporting

Emergency reports: Call 911 or your local law enforcement agency if someone needs emergency assistance or is in a life-threatening situation.

State Mandated Reporters (Idaho Code 39-5303)

Online Reports – online reporting is ONLY available to financial institutions and those who are mandated by state law to report. All other reporters must call the local Area Agency on Aging during regular business hours.
